In an environment where neither the municipality nor the government give reliable support, regulation, or security, large building projects spread like fungus throughout the city. Istanbul urbanites must adjust to a state of continual chaos and change. As the city becomes gentrified, small businesses gradually disappear because they cannot compete with international corporations.   Daily I watch the traditional 'bakkal' (grocery shop), 'kurtasiye' (stationery shop), 'nalbur' (hardware store), 'berber' (hairdresser), 'manav' (green grocer), 'pastahane' (pastry shop), commercial art gallery, and photograph studio disappear.  To materialize this photography series, I walked through several neighborhoods in Istanbul, found small shops that have been in business for the past 15-30 years, and arranged  "Save Me" and “Beni Yok Etme” stickers in their windows or outside their spaces. In this exhibition I invite spectators to join in my effort to write a new scenario for Istanbul’s buildings and neighborhoods.  In the same way that by making my selections I told about my preferences, beliefs and desired life style, as others select the places they want to save, they will also write their own stories.

Two mirrors which are normally used for crossroads for scanning or observing the space are installed at the staircase inside the exhibiton space of „Invisible Play“ and outside at public sphere. In confrontation with phrases of the text „the principle of hope“ written by Nazim Dikbas there is an intention to rethink the brutal attak to visitors at the opening of Tophane. What are the tensions between self organized activities of art production and political dynamics of urbanization ? What is our part in the production or reproduction of a story or a history?

The turkish soap opera "Gümüs" was no success in Turkey, but became the most popular tv series in Arab countries under the title of "Nour".  85 million people watched the final episode and due to its success the amount of tourists from Arab countries to Istanbul increased by 50% since 2009. One thing they all want to see is the house on the Bosporus in which the main character Muhannad lives in the series. The video approaches this house from several sides, revealing a stage for projections of different kinds.

The artist attempts to practice and eventually play piano pieces by French composer Eric Satie, transcribed for the classical guitar. The audience hardly hears anything, as a silent guitar is used for this task.

Magda Tothova´s work The Meddah/ list of stage props is refering to the tradition of the turkish story teller, also called the Meddah. The Meddah represents many different types of people by imitating  peculiarities of dialect and person. Instead of merely describing a character, he would give an impersonation by using two props, a wooden stick and a handkerchief. Magda Tothova collected some of these props including the chair for the Meddah from different places in Istanbul, such as the Kurdish theater or the cafe Romo, which is favored for his view over the Bosporus in an authentic surrounding. These props are supposed to be the instruments for telling different stories. In Tothova´s work they are bringing their own stories already with them.
The series "Sketches for the modern Meddah 1-5"  is picturing five situations of a non-existing theater play about the Meddah.

A dancer is invited to compose and to perform a scene that comprises the images of the people from the actual demonstrations. Here the body movements of the people from the demonstrations are intended to transform into a monumental platform for a moment.
